Throughout October, WPI Information Security offers tips and resources to keep logins, online activity, devices and data safe. Since 2004, Cybersecurity Awareness Month has been a collaborative effort between government and industry to ensure that all Americans have the information they need to stay safer and more secure online. Co-led by the National Cyber Security Alliance (NCSA) and the Department of Homeland Security’s Cybersecurity & Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA), WPI has joined as a champion to educate our community!
Introduction
Do Your Part #BeCyber Smart
Welcome to National Cybersecurity Awareness Month (NCSAM) 2020! This year’s theme empowers each individual to own their role in protecting their part of cyberspace. Each personal security step we take also strengthens the cybersafety of WPI! As a champion, WPI partners with NCSA and CISA to educate our community about cybersecurity, promote better habits, and help you avoid pitfalls.
Why do we need NCSAM? Here are a few reasons:
- Hackers attack every 39 seconds, on average 2,244 times a day. (University of Maryland)
- 56% of Americans don’t know what steps to take in the event of a data breach. (Varonis)
- 46% of organizations got all of their malware via email. (Verizon 2020 Data Breach Investigations Report)
Check back for a new theme and related links each week. You can get started now by perusing information on the WPI Information Security Hub site.
